Summary: Best Results Yet! 2008-05-23
Comment: I've tried sunless tanning lotions before and always had a hard time getting an even tone in hard-to-reach areas, like my back. I had read reviews of sprays and decided to try out this Coppertone product. I have to say that it is the best product I've found, IF you follow the directions. The directions say that for best results, you should rub it in. The first time I applied the mist, I didn't and ended up with darker spots on my legs because there were drops built up on the sprayer that landed on my legs. Since then, I've rubbed in it and experienced great, even results!
It doesn't give you instant color, so no one will notice that you were pale one day and tanned the next. it dries very quickly and it's subtle at first so it actually looks like you are building a tan. It starts to develop after a few hours, darkens throughout the day and becomes darker with more applications. It also looks very natural on me. I have pretty fair skin, so I don't know what it would look like on other skin tones, but I've had great results. With other products I've tried, it might look nice at first, but with more applications, it becomes more orange.
The ease of application is great! They really mean it when they say you can spray at any angle! The only two complaints I have with it is that it still smells like all the other self-tanners I've tried. But I have a very sensitive nose. No one else has noticed the smell at all, including my fiance. The other problem is that if you have any moisture on your hands at all, it makes it difficult to push the sprayer. I did it right after I showered and dried off, so there was still moisture in the air. It condensated on the can, which is smooth and metal, and it just slid up through my hand when I was pushing the button, making it almost impossible to use, especially in my non-dominant hand. I'm sure if I put some tape or something around it, that would solve the problem. Aside from that, I think this is a great product and will continue to use it, especially for my wedding!

Comment: I've used a lot of self-tanning products since I suffer from sun poisoning rashes and cannot tan. I have used a towelet application product for convenience, especially for my face. This spray though, actually goes on easier with less streaking than a towelet produces. Plus it is less expensive than the better towelets. I use the light to medium color since I'm quite pale, so my review refers only to that specific product. (This Coppertone color can be hard to locate in stores.)
You don't have to massage this in, but for even color, I've yet to find a self-tanner that doesn't require massaging the chemical in with your hand. This one goes on with a fine spray that means minimal smoothing though. I find that it produces a more realistic color than most and is great for quick morning re-touches. Even after a recent shave and exfoliation, I have had no irritation from this product. I also don't find the need to be all that careful about over-spray staining either. Again, that might be more of a prob with the darker shades.
There seems to be less work involved to blend it at the ankles and wrists than with a lot of other products I've tried, including those with cosmetic coloring added. I apply a thin layer of moisturizing lotion at the "problem" spots like ankle, elbow and knees to avoid over-darkening. The speed of the darkening is average for the product - a few hours.
I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars because I'm still looking for the "perfect" self-tanning product. This isn't perfect, but I found it better than most for ease of use and results.
